A December escape at the Cape Grace Hotel

This Christmas we decided to visit Cape Town and what better place to stay at than the Cape Grace Hotel? Our stay was nothing short of a spectacular to say the least. The attention to detail and service was truly something out of this world. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the team and briefly whisked away to our room. The hotel felt intimate and homely, with a towering Christmas tree adorned in gold protea flowers. Complimentary Christmas themed cakes and Christmas tree shaped lollies were available and the kids were over the moon.

The hotel is truly a graceful icon and is located at the heart of the V&A Waterfront. The staff, decor and hotel rooms evoke a sense of familiarity and comfort. With a timeless interior - our room had the most picturesque view of the harbour, marina as well as the Table Mountain. The skies were a vivid clear blue on all three days and the kids settled in very quickly. I often found Noah standing by the balcony overlooking the Marina pointing at every yacht and bird go by saying “wow, mama!” Completely mesmerised by the view - I was left feeling a sense of warmth by the hotel.

A special mention to all the staff who truly went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. From the little bath robes, to the kids slippers and toys - they were entertained at all times. We have nothing but great things to say about our stay and cannot wait to return again.

Thank you for having us!

We checked into a one bedroom suite which was 90m2 in size. It had a harbour and mountain view with a walk-in shower and separate bath. The timeless design encapsulates the separate lounge and dining area.

Dining at the Heirloom

Whilst staying at the Cape Grace Hotel we decided to pop into the Heirloom for a much needed date night. The ambience was so intimate and was perfect for a late dinner. The hotel kindly assisted us with hiring an in-house baby sitter so that we could quickly duck out for three hours (please note that there is a minimum of a three hour sitter - you cannot hire less that that).

We arrived and sat down to a beautiful view of the Marina. We opted for the Cape Malay Mussel pot as well as half a dozen oysters for our starters. Whenever we visit Cape Town we try to stick to seafood - as it’s always so fresh. The mussels were bold in taste and not too spicy - and the oysters ended up being the best batch we had on our trip overall (better than V&A market!).

For our mains we opted for the braai lamb rack with coriander seed, tomato and onion as well as the grilled black tiger prawns with puffed sorghum. The ribs literally melted in our mouthes - it was perfectly cooked. Kevin and I both have extremely high standards when it comes to lamb - but we couldn’t fault this dish.

My tiger prawns was however slightly on the charred side - and the texture combination wasn’t my favourite - so I can’t quite recommend this dish - i’d opt with the rack of ribs if you’re looking for a tasty dish!

The drink menu is quite extensive - and i’d highly suggest trying their whiskey as the hotel has a massive whiskey range. Kevin ordered a Johnnie Walker Blue label on the rocks - and it paired perfectly with the lamb rack.

Overall dinner was perfect - we were too full to try dessert and quickly headed upstairs to find both kids fast asleep.
