Sunsets at Burj Al Arab
Hello from Dubai!
Just thought i'd do a quick travel update from Bab Al Shams- I'm currently sitting here with my laptop in front of me surrounded by the most vibrant fabrics draped from my ceilings with soft, Persian rugs below my feet and I find myself at a loss for words at the beauty and culture of this divine city. Despite the unbearable heat which the locals describe as being 'not bad' and that it goes up to 55 degrees in the warmer months, leaves me feeling almost ashamed at my low tolerance for this heat.
It's usually moments like these which help me appreciate the beauty of travel. How travel forces you to lose sight of all that is familiar. Travel takes away the comfort of your home and friends and leaves you with nothing except the essentials - air, sleep and the sky.
I almost need to pinch myself that i'm actually in Dubai and that this isn't a dream. I wake up everyday in disbelief that I'm getting paid to do what I am most passionate about. Undoubtedly, it has taken me a year and half of hard work to get me to where I am but I wouldn't have done things any differently if I was given the choice.
I will be turning 24 in just three days and I've come to realise that life is too short to not do what you love most. As Mark Twain says, 'twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream and Discover.' It's never too late to chase those dreams and figure out a way to materialise them. If you want it badly enough - you can make it happen.
