Having quit my job as art director in Australia - I packed up my bags and moved back to South Africa at the beginning of the year. Having spent the last eleven years away from home, away from my loved ones - I found myself missing out on all the little moments which soon amounted to the big moments. During the last eleven years I had missed out on invaluable time which I could’ve spent with my grandmother and my dog - Abbie.
Soon after my nana died, my dog passed away of old age, there is so much I regret to say the least- I remember walking home through the arrival gate of the international airport - and seeing my mother. She had suddenly aged so much, I had to quickly remind myself how 10 years had just passed in the blink of an eye.
My moved back home was not a light decision. I had built up a career which I had worked so hard for and was walking away. However, I did not want to live with anymore regret. I knew I wanted to spend as much time with my parents as possible. I missed my mums cooking, my dad’s braais and most of all I missed home.
I’ve spent a great deal of time finding a new home, getting settled and getting furniture for the space. It feels so good to be back. I’m finally back to uploading on Instagram too. Took a mini break and feeling mentally focused again. Thanks for being patient with me guys, I’ve missed you all so much.
