Autumn Beauty Inspiration That's Not-So-Boring
By: Lilith Hardie Lupica
As we move into autumn, a season long-reserved for plumm-y lips and doleful hues, a melancholy mood often descends as summer’s trimmings are packed away for another year.
But the cooler weather shouldn’t discourage creativity, especially where painting your face is concerned. In fact, look to the change of season as a chance to learn new tricks and find your intrepid spirit, channelling it into unchartered beauty territories you would never think to visit during the summer months.
Look to the below as your not-so-boring autumn beauty inspiration for when the lustre of your new knits fade and there’s nothing but chill for the foreseeable future.
1. Colour playoff This isn’t necessarily a tutorial in how to wear blue (although if that’s your style, enjoy) but rather, a subtle encouragement to wear colours that compete for attention. Dip into your arsenal and pull out a peachy lip and blue shadow if you’re open to such a pairing, or play with a poppy pink lip and lilac eye instead.
2. A minimalist manicure Dip your fingernails into the minimalist movement with playful, yet subtle, manicure. There’s no need to splash out dozens of colours or become proficient in nail artistry. Instead, play with negative space and simple but bold colours.
3. No nonsense liner Regardless of your proficiency with eyeliner, there’s fun to be had with negative space and sharp, angular liner. Practice obviously makes perfect, but there’s certainly something refreshing about the suggestion of a flick rather than heavy, black eyes. Liners worth your energy? Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Liquid EyeLiner and Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner.
4. A hint of hue Not all of us are well-acquainted or even on good terms with colour make-up but a hit of red, splash of blue or sprig of green could be just what you’re missing. Running a subtle hint of colour across your waterline or tightline, might be the difference between a blah day and an extraordinary one. Maybe.
It’s worth a try, especially now that Fenty Beauty is serving up vibrant shades to play with in their new range of Flypencil Longwear Pencil Eyeliner. Lady Lagoon and Cute Ting are calling your name.
5. Easy asymmetry Ok, so all-out glitter may not be an ordinary everyday look but there’s something to be said for a not-so-symmetrical take on not-so-boring beauty. Your lips and eyes are the perfect canvas to experiment on. A cheeky red swiped across your top lip and a soft, baby pink painted on to your bottom lip is a match made in heaven. Or, dust blue eyeshadow on to one eye and green on the other for a modern Little Mermaid moment, minus the sea water.
