More Than a Bar, a Cape Town Experience | Bar Bascule

We did a short three night stay the beautiful hotel of Cape Grace located at the V&A Waterfront. We were told there was a hidden gem located in within the hotel - after passing through a few corridors and wandering down a hidden staircase we reached Bar Bascule - it had a sort of speakeasy vibe to it. Upon entering the intimate bar - we were asked if we wanted to be seated indoors or outdoors.

Given the beautiful clear, blue skies and sun - we asked if there was any outdoor seating available, to which they said there was. We had the most picturesque view of the wharf and what a beautiful way to end our day! We browsed their impressive selection of over five hundred whiskies from around the world - and the Johnnie Walker King George V, caught our eye. Our server was so knowledgeable - she gave us the most insightful story of the whiskey and guided us through our selection, sharing her insights and recommendations.

Behind each whiskey there is a very interesting story. We loved the history behind our chosen whiskey and we were advised to try it without ice and then with ice - which made such a difference. Learning to appreciate the art of whiskey making as well as the bold, rich flavours of the drinks - was really such a treat.
