Capella Sydney

Checking-In

I had the pleasure of being one of the first guests to stay at the beautifully renovated heritage icon building that once stood as the Department of Education. Located in the heart of Sydney CBD is this sandstone building which finally opened its doors and welcomed guests for the first time. I stayed for two nights during Australian Fashion week and found it extremely convenient to get around via Uber. They provide on site valet parking for Aud$120 - other options include parking at Wilson Parking which is located around the corner from the newly refurbished heritage building.

Special thank you to the staff for being so attentive and kind during my stay. I particularly enjoyed hanging out at the Capella Living room which served complimentary wine, coffee and a wide variety of soft drinks after hours.

The unparalleled spaces within Capella Sydney showcase curated artwork, sophisticated furnishings and intriguing objet d’art. 192 guestrooms and suites spanning eight levels, are anchored by three ground-level food and beverage offerings, including signature restaurant, Brasserie 1930 and McRae Bar.

The ground level also features six meeting and event spaces catering for groups of 10 to 80 guests, while wellness-seeking guests will make their way to Level Six to discover the world-class health and spa facilities.

Room Tour

The accommodation at Capella Sydney is as unique as the property itself. Dovetailed with the intricate craftsmanship of the original building, the masterfully crafted guestrooms and suites exude luxury, showcasing delectable walnuts, natural stones and deluxe textiles wrapped by the historic façade, cushioning guests from the bustle of the city.

Despite our bedroom facing the CBD - our room provided ample privacy with the two sets of blinds. We found the bathroom very spacious and really enjoyed the hand crafted chocolates and personalised welcome letter. Each room is also equipped with a Dyson hair dryer, complimentary soft drinks and turn down service.

Hotel Amenities

For inhouse guests of Capella Sydney, the hotel provides exclusive access to a world-class wellness space. A remnant of the building’s former life, including as the Department of Education’s informal art gallery, a series of breathtaking copper-lined heritage lanterns positioned overhead, illuminate the wellness space with natural light. Beginning with the heated indoor swimming and vitality pools, facilities include a well-appointed fitness centre and changerooms, yoga platform and Auriga Spa showcasing immersive treatment rooms for couples and individuals set within the luxurious surrounds.

Breakfast & Checking Out

Anchored to the Young Street shoulder of the hotel, Brasserie 1930 delivers an elevated dining experience in consultation with The Bentley Group. Exuding grandeur and sophistication, underscored by its landmark architecture, the ground-floor restaurant features a menu of modern brasserie classics and an extensive wine list, served in a casual yet dynamic inner-city atmosphere. Highlighting small-batch farmers and growers, the menu celebrates the best in Australian produce, with cooking methods drawing upon age-old techniques such as curing, smoking, fermenting, preserving and pickling.

For breakfast we enjoyed the buffet which offered a wide variety of Danish pastries, croissants, fruits, cheeses and charcuterie options. For the mains we were given a menu with plenty of options to select from. I’d highly recommend the avocado on toast!
