My brother and I decided to surprise my mum for her birthday with a secret lunch at the Kitchen on Maison Estate located on the Franschhoek family vineyard of designer furniture retailer Chris Weylandt. Chris Weylandt, founder of Weylandts, says: ‘The Tasting Room and The Kitchen is an extension of our Good Living philosophy which is a celebration of relaxed living. It operates on the simple principal of producing great wine, delicious food and great design, a celebration of all that makes life good.’

We sat on the terrace with a perfect background of the mountains. We did the five course tasting menu and each one was a delightful surprise! We spent two hours laughing and reminiscing our naughty childhood days and I was suddenly so grateful for this wonderful moment which I managed to share with my mum. Thank you for all that you do for us, mum and I hope that this lunch was nothing short of incredible on your birthday!
