How to Take on LA with AMEX

I recently visited Los Angeles for work. The last time I was back in the City of Angels was two years ago and I was ecstatic to revisit as nothing quite beats the food and instascene in LA. Quite a few of my friends had been raving about the American Express Explorer Credit Card and how it allowed them to upgrade to Business Class seats during their recent travels. I had never owned a credit card let alone an AMEX, so I decided to look into it because I thought it was the perfect opportunity to sign up and give it a go.

Upon signing up, I received 100,000 Membership Rewards Bonus Points after spending $1600 on my flights. I also used the complimentary $400 Travel Credit to pay for my accomodation at the Line Hotel which I found incredibly beneficial. Before flying I was invited to spent time at the beautiful American Express Lounge at Sydney International Airport before flying to LA.

The best part about my AMEX card is that for every $1 spent, I earn up to 2 Membership Rewards points which eventually allows me to upgrade to Business Class or goes towards accomodation or travel credit. Whilst in LA, I didn't have to withdraw a single cent and used my AMEX for all my payments for accomodation, car rental, food and entertainment. Unlike most cards, there was no additional International conversion fees with the AMEX - which saved me a heap of money!

Waldorf Astoria - Beverly Hills

Public transport can be quite tough in LA and I would highly recommend renting a car from the airport. Once you have a car travelling around this large city is much more convenient. If you're on a tight budget i'd suggest hitting up the Line Hotel in Koreatown. It's a contemporary, minimal and chic hotel with an incredible rooftop pool and is located in close vicinity to Skyspace and LACMA. Visiting the Urban lights at midnight in LA was a first for me and was the most memorable moment of my trip! I had been once before during the day when it was swapped with large crowds and visiting at night - when the art installation was empty was an ethereal experience.
