MADAME SHANGHAI
Madame Shanghai is located in Darlinghurst and is now serving Shanghai street food & yum cha. Upon entering the restaurant one is greeted by an old school elegance and Chinoiserie décor combined with a touch of blue and pink tones emulating the 1930's Shanghai. The 90 seater is open six days for dinner and a bar menu as well as yum cha lunch and dinner!
Vinh and I had the pleasure of sitting across from Adam & his partner Megan. We bonded over a hearty serving of yum cha, grilled main dishes & desserts - what a night it was to say the least. Madame Shanghai is not your typical Chinese restaurant as this is quite a modern take on the cuisine.
The highlight of the yum cha dishes was the BBQ duck and spinach dumplings! The main course included a variety of Asian dishes some of which included the soft shell crab and grilled milk bread, wok fried-sizzling king prawns, sticky pork hock, fried cauliflower with chickpea, chilli halves and aged vinegar and my favourite winner of the night was the oven baked red oxtail with shitake mushrooms, sorghum and barley pie!
To end of the extensive dinner menu we had mango pudding and coconut match wagon wheels. I found the latter quite sweet - and would highly suggest going with the mango pudding if you do not have a sweet tooth. I would highly recommend coming here for dinner and can't wait to be back with relatives!
