With such stunning surroundings, Chromata must be one of the best hotels with its spare and serene environment of pure white. Each of its 26 rooms, suits and single villa look out across the caldera and beyond. The centrepiece of the hotel is its unheated infinity pool with loungers and parasols around its edge, and cocktail bar a few feet away (tell staff your favourite spirit and they’ll prepare a concoction for you)

Personal service is a hallmark of the hotel (“staff are at your beck and call for all requests from the routine through to the outlandish”). Give the signal and you can be whisked away to the A.SPA, 10 minutes away in the village of Oia, for restorative treatments.
